Past Society Presidents from the Tuscaloosa Branch
Dr. Daniel (Dan) S. Turner is the only Alabamian to serve as the Society President for the American Society of Civil Engineers. Dr. Turner is well known nationally for vision and leadership. As President of ASCE in 1999, he was the country’s foremost advocate for improving the aging infrastructure, and he represented American engineering interests internationally.
As a native of Alabama, Dr. Turner has made his life’s work improving traffic safety and highway design for the state and the nation. He has contributed significantly to the knowledge and practice of civil engineering, and his accomplishments made him an ambassador for his profession, state and university.
