April 25th, 2024, Branch Meeting

The upcoming branch meeting will be held on April 25th at the Sheriff’s Ops Center, just west of the Tuscaloosa Public Works Building and Shop. Lunch will be available beginning at 11:30. The meeting will begin at 12:00 p.m. and adjourn at approximately 1:00 p.m. We are excited to have Judge Rob Robertson, Tuscaloosa County Probate Judge, join us this month and give us an update on Tuscaloosa County Public Works. If you plan to have lunch, please contact Karl Elebash kelebash@TTLInc.com  no later than Tuesday, April 23rd, so that we have a head count to order food.

On January 18, 2024, the Tuscaloosa Branch of ASCE conducted their 1st
Industry Leaders Q&A Panel Discussion with the University of Alabama’s
American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). This event was attended by
over 85 participants that included students, faculty, staff, Tuscaloosa
Branch ASCE Members, and panelists. The University of Alabama’s
President, Dr. Stuart R. Bell, was able to attend briefly and mingle with the
fellow students beforehand. Region 5 Governor for the Alabama Section,
Mr. Brad Williams, P.E. opened the floor for students to ask questions and
to moderate the panelists. 

The panel was composed of the following volunteers:

DeAndrae Kimbrough, P.E. – Perry County Engineer

Jimmy Duncan, P.E., P.L.S. – President, Duncan and Coker Associates, PC

Sydney Terry – Project Engineer, TTL, Inc.

Angela Henline, P.E. – Project Manager, The Cassady Company, Inc.

Craig Williams, P.E. – Principal, Thompson Engineering

Benji Cantrell, P.E. – Operations Engineer Tuscaloosa Area, ALDOT

The Q&A panel was dynamic and engaging, featuring a diverse group of engineering professionals who enthusiastically shared their perspectives and experiences. The panel provided a platform for an interactive exchange of ideas, allowing the student audience members to pose questions on a variety of topics including college courses, internship opportunities, FE and PE licensures, and career paths.

The students showcased a wide range of backgrounds, academic interests, and extracurricular involvement, contributing to a rich and multifaceted discussion. From inquiries about career life to academic challenges, the panelists offered candid and insightful responses, fostering a sense of community and connection among the audience. The event not only facilitated a deeper understanding of the professional experience, but also underscored the importance of open dialogue and collaboration within the professional and academic community.

A special thanks to Brad Williams, Frank Summers, Karl Elebash, Bradley Porter, and Ashley Maddox for helping make the event a huge success!

Congratulations to Jason Coker, P.E. (Duncan Coker Associates) for being named the 2023 Engineer of the Year by the Tuscaloosa Branch of ASCE!

Frank Summers joins the Tuscaloosa Branch Leadership Team

Frank graduated from The University of Alabama, where he received a bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering and minor of science in mechanical engineering. His experience includes projects for utility companies, transportation departments, local governments, school systems, and private clients for almost 30 years. He has designed and managed all aspects of construction projects ranging from sanitary sewer collection systems and storm drainage networks to multifamily and residential subdivisions, recreational facilities, roadways, water and fire protection systems, and mixed-use developments.


Karl Elebash joins the Tuscaloosa Branch Leadership Team

Karl graduated from The University of Alabama, where he received bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering and construction engineering. He also attended Mississippi State University, and graduated with a Master of Science in civil engineering. His 12 years of experience includes geotechnical engineering, construction quality assurance, Special Inspections, and construction quality control testing. Karl’s geotechnical experience encompasses project scoping, planning, execution of field data collection, and engineering analysis required to provide geotechnical recommendations and produce written geotechnical reports for various projects. Karl’s project work has included institutional structures, commercial structures, roadway/pavement projects, and slope stability projects.


2023 Scholarship Winner

The Tuscaloosa Branch awarded its annual scholarship to University of Alabama student Kaylyn Marlow.  We are very thankful to the many sponsors of the Tuscaloosa Branch to be able to give back to our future Civil Engineers!
